Five hospitality design trends in the spotlight

Published on 01 March 2022

Hoteliers and restaurant owners have learned over the last period to quickly adapt to the changing circumstances and demand of the market. From the growing need for contact with nature and the attention to hygiene to a flexible and multifunctional layout. What other developments do we see in the current hospitality interiors? In this blog post we summarize five design trends in the hospitality sector for you.

INDOOR MEETS OUTDOOR

Ever since the outbreak of the corona virus our need for contact with nature has been bigger than ever. Indoor and outdoor are getting more and more intertwined with each other. Borders between the inside and outside are fading. Accommodations where you step from your bed right into nature are showing up everywhere. Plants and natural elements are popular, both inside as on terraces and in outdoor spaces of hotels. In the interior we see a look of natural materials like wood, rattan, (nature) stone and marble. Realistic and/or graphical prints of plants, flours, animals and landscapes strengthen the natural atmosphere.

WELL-BEING AND HYGIENE

Nowadays there is a lot of attention for our health, both physical as mental. No surprise well-being plays an important role in the contemporary hospitality interiors. Private wellness and individual sporting facilities during the stay are on the rise. But also a healthy indoor climate is an important pillar. Think about the use of air purifiers, good ventilation systems and the application of emission low materials. Furthermore we see an increasing demand for biophilic design. An important point of interest in regard to health is hygiene. The application of contactless service for example has increased substantially. Furthermore there is a lot of demand for easy to clean surfaces and antimicrobial materials for amongst others floors, walls and interior fabrics.

PERSONAL AND UNIQUE

More than ever hospitality involves around offering a personalized and unique experience. Hotel rooms and restaurant interiors with all the same standard interior really are outdated. Guests want an environment adapted to their personal needs and preferences. Spaces with a unique concept strengthen the need for an individual experience. Pop-up hotels and hotels with theme rooms make welcome use of this. For a tailor-made experience they make smart use of customized printing materials.

FLEXIBLE AND MULTIFUNCTIONAL INTERIOR

A growing number of guests combines working, relaxing and meeting during their stay. This requires a flexible environment configured to multiple functions. Think of the hotel lobby designed for both informal as well as formal meetings and for both the recreational as the business traveler. Or the individual hotel room that can be easily transformed into an office. In order to flexibly arrange you can use for example customizable sliding walls, curtains and multifunctional furniture. In the field of floors the use of ‘zoning’ is a perfect way to realize a flexible lay-out. By applying different types of floors or floor design within one room next to each other you can divide the space in different zones with each its own function.

TECHNOLOGY

Corona has caused an accelerated digitalization and the introduction of technology in hotels and restaurants. This shortage of staff also adds to this. Technology here mainly plays a supporting role to the guests and directed to the creation of the ultimate customer experience. Personalized managing your stay as much as possible is appealing to a lot of guests. We see for example developments like smart hotel rooms with smart beds and smart mirrors, click and collect for ordering food, contact with service employees through the chat, the use of robotics and a completely automated check-in and check-out process.
