Five interior trends in hospitality highlighted

Published on 15 June 2021

Hotel and restaurant owners recently have learned like no other to quickly adjust to the changing circumstances and needs of the market. From a flexible layout and a growing demand for the application of natural elements to the necessary attention for hygiene. What exactly are the highlights in the current hospitality interiors of today? LEOXX looked into them and presents you five of the interiors trends in hospitality.

Natural and green

The sustainable and green trend has been going on for some while, but ever since the outbreak of covid the attention for nature is bigger than ever. The realization that we need to treat the earth with caution nowadays has been widely adopted. Because of this awareness there is an increased need to apply more green and natural materials and also surround ourselves indoors with the power of nature. A lot of green and plants are hot, both inside as on terraces and in indoor spaces of hotels. In the interior we see a lot of natural materials being used like wood, rattan, (nature) stone and marble. Realistic or more graphical prints of flours, animals and landscape form a beautiful addition in this regard and complete the whole.

Atmosphere aNd COMFORT

Besides atmosphere, comfort also plays an increasingly important role in hotels and restaurants. We see more and more strokable and soft fabrics and materials, like velvet and velour. These are being executed both in uni colors as with patterns and design. Soft materials are not only noticeable on furniture, pillows and curtain fabrics, but also on the floor in the shape of a rug or wall-to-wall carpet. Or on the wall in the shape of a tapestry. Each and every one is an ultimate mood maker contributing to a raised level of comfort.

Prints and patterns

Outstanding or crazy prints and outspoken patterns function as a real visitor magnet. Guests are looking for a special experience, at a place where they can escape their daily routine. Prints are an excellent way to create a unique experience and reinforce your concept. Hence, we see a lot of hospitality interiors where prints are being implemented in detail and return in various elements of the interior. In this regard think of the floor, curtains, furniture fabrics, wall or even the ceiling.

FLEXIBLe INTERIoR

There are more and more restaurants and hotels that combine working, relaxing and meeting. This demands a flexible lay-out and an environment adjusted to multiple functions. From a hotel room that can be easily transformed into an office space to bigger open spaces that can be quickly divided into multiple intimate seating areas. For creating a flexible hotel interior and a fast change of the atmosphere and setting, you can use for example customizable sliding walls, curtains, multifunctional furniture or textile frames with changeable canvas.

HYGIeNE and WELL-BEING

More and more emphasis is being put on good hygiene and a healthy indoor climate. There is an increasing demand for easy to clean materials and antimicrobial fabrics. Also the quality of the inside air is an important pillar. Think of good ventilation systems, the use of air purifiers and the application of emission low materials. Furthermore we see the attention for this topic back in things like the lay-out of the interior and the application of biophilic design. Vincent van Dijk, trend forecaster in the field of hospitality and food in a recent piece in Misset Horeca: “From the placement of coughing screens and arrows for walking routes, we need to work towards a new design that fits this era where distance, hygiene and well-being are a part of the design.”
