Published on 27 September 2022

Creating a big make-over with minimal means and effort in the interior? Wallcovering is the answer. Wallcovering adds atmosphere to your home or project instantly, without having to invest a lot of money or time. From subtle mood makers to a bold statement, wallcovering truly finishing your interior. Curious about the current trends in wallcovering? We did the research for you and have listed some of them here.

1. NATURE

Nature remains a big source of inspiration. We get our energy from it and it gives peace to our interior. At a time when we get quickly overstimulates by all devices we are daily connected to, an interior with natural elements is a source of calm and serenity. For wallcovering we see this in the use of patterns such as wood prints, botanic gardens, bird and images of a forest environment.

2. FOLKLORE

Folkloric prints are making a comeback. With them you can mix and match patterns. And they can be colorful! After all color makes happy and gives energy. With this trend you can also play with the proportions of a pattern. For a big effect you can inflate the flowers for instance. Or choose a refined design which creates a more peaceful and classic look. When you print on texture, this also creates depth. Making the design even more exiting and providing it with an artisanal look.

3. METALLICS

Research shows we still love gold; currently this can be seen in a lot of items like home accessories and taps. A metal making its comeback is chrome. A metallic wallcovering radiates a certain luxury, but also has a warming effect. In combination with for example black or white a metallic color stands out even more. Beautiful in a minimalistic interior for just a bit warmer atmosphere and more luxurious touch.

4. 3D-PRINTS

The previous couple of years we’ve already seen a lot of 3D-art being used on the wall, often with geometrical and abstract shapes. We’ll now be seeing this on the entire wall. It creates an exciting effect and at the same time creates depth. You can also create a 3D effect by printing 3D images on acoustical wallcovering, which provides a sound muting effect as well.

5. ASTRO

More and more people are interested in astrology. It involves the relation between the sun, moon and planets and the influence of them on the earthly life. Due to all the hustle and bustle around us and the feeling that we are being lived, at home we want to come to ourselves more and get to our deepest core. In addition we are looking for meaning and guidance during these uncertain times. Astrology can help us there. We’d been seeing crystals for instance being use in the interior regularly already. As accessory, but also in wallcoverings shown as print of cross-sections of materials like agate or marbles. Now you can find an increased appearance of beautiful stars or images of the moon and star signs.

6. SOFT & ORGANIC

Organic and soft shapes have been popular in the interior for a while, a trend which will stay for quite some time to come. We find them more and more in wallcovering as well. Think of soft, round patterns, light shades of white and beige or caressable textile fabrics like suede, linen or woolen structures. These often have a natural and acoustic function as well. They fit well within the Japandi trend and minimalistic interiors, where they add additional warmth and coziness.

7. VINTAGE

In the context of sustainability we are more and more looking for that one unique designer piece for our home. Interior pieces and colors from the fifties, sixties and seventies are in demand again, items that generally are durable and of high quality as well. We are willing to invest more money in them to enjoy them longer. The materials can be weathered or contain a scratch. On the wall we can see this in the use of patterns of concrete and weathered wood or in fresco like designs and rattan patterns.
