The current trends in LVT flooring

Published on 13 May 2022

Commercial environments and the way we use spaces is changing. This asks for a new generation of floors. Also in the field of LVT (Luxury Vinyl Tiles) developments do not stand still. Lorna Williams, Head of Product Design and Visual Creation at Amtico, talks us through the newest trends in LVT flooring, which can be seen amongst others in the renewed Spacia collection.

AUTHENTICITy

One of the trends we’ve noticed for some while in the field of interior and flooring is authenticity. Love for craftsmanship, natural designs and structures and materials with a story. Texture plays an important role with this trend. With LVT flooring we mainly see this in lifelike wood and stone designs with a realistic appearance. Special embossing techniques give the floor a tangible surface structure and give them an even more natural look. Popular are aged looks, weathered structures and rustic elements. This also corresponds well with the growing need for contact with nature and the biophilic design principle.

HYGIeNE

The Covid pandemic has further emphasized the importance of good hygiene and maintenance-friendly materials. LVT flooring in that regard is a practical choice. They are by nature easy to clean and maintain. An additional quality of flooring from amongst others the Amtico Spacia collection is that they offer an antimicrobial protection. Due to the unique Quantum Guard Elite urethane coating the growth of bacteria and mold is reduced for 99% within 24 hours. A soothing thought, especially in environments where health is of utmost importance like healthcare. But also for industries like the office market and hospitality sector where there is a lot of attention to a healthy working and living environment, these floors provide a solution.

XL-size

Floor tiles in big sizes are popular. The use of big tile sizes in spaces with an open floor plan make the room look even bigger and create a harmonious appearance. An XL-size is also perfect to bring the outdoors inside; with them you visually pull the outdoor space inside. We also see an increased demand for rectangular tiles; a shape that feels natural. Especially in combination with the floor strips this sizes lets you create a contemporary look.

Floor patterns

Floor patterns can completely change the look of a space and are perfect for creating a unique experience. Also in B2B-environments we see flooring being used in more and more creative ways. For example in hotels and restaurants, but also in retail environments and in the office space distinctive floor patterns are popular. Think of patterns like basket weave, traditional paving or patterns assembled from geometrical shapes. Or what about a personal, self-designed pattern completely cut-to-size? The parquet look continues to be popular as well. Not just executed in the classic herringbone pattern, but also in trendy variations like Hungarian point, Fushion Parquet and varieties with extra small or wide planks.

SToNe and concrete

We find more fluidity in LVT flooring designs with a concrete or stone look. Concrete is treated in a playful manner, for example by combining different kinds with each other. The colors of the stone design are also becoming bolder. Besides the well-known grey tones, soft chalk-like colors like beige, taupe, greyed green and pale pink are popular. Looking at design/look besides concrete mainly marble, terrazzo and natural stone are on the rise. The eight new trendy Terrazzo designs from the new Spacia collection for example are received very positively. Especially the two a bit more daring designs. With their variation in size and density of stones they create a terrazzo look just that little bit different.

Applying the new lvT flooring trends

Looking forward to getting started with the new flooring trends in LVT? The renewed Amtico Spacia collection is inspired by the latest trends in the field of LVT. Lorna: The new 2022 collection is designed to inspire and create a sense of calm. In this respect our design team also addresses the demand for subtle, but contemporary colors and patterns in commercial interiors. This results in new products, textures and patterns not only looking impressive one their own, but they are also beautiful to combine. Whether this is within open spaces or independent spaces of a project.”
