Floor maintenance: do's and don'ts

Published on 18 February 2020

You probably recognise this. The new floor looking beautiful after installation, is looking dirty and dingy after some time. It doesn't have the looks anymore you had in mind for some time already. As enthusiastic you were after instalment, as unhappy you are now. How does this happen and how can you make sure you will enjoy your new floor longer?

Neglected child

Every floor needs maintenance. Johannes Weening, quality manager at LEOXX: "A new floor is like a new car. The first year you are proud of your car and you regularly clean it, but after a while the daily maintenance gets postponed causing the car to not look like when it was delivered anymore. That's also how things go with floors." On top of that the maintenance of the floor is often not included with the regular cleaning. Making floors unnoticed becoming a neglected child.

TIPS & TRICKS

A good avice upon purchase and instalment of a new floor prevents a lot of complaints regarding maintenance later on. But did you know you as a user yourself can do a lot to keep your floor in good condition as well? With the following tips & tricks we help you into the right direction. Check these do’s and don’ts and your floor is assured to last longer!

DO’S

  • Keep dirt and moisture outside with a good entrance zone. Use a hard brush mat for outside and provide a good clean and dry-walk are at the entrance.
  • Invest in a good brush vacuum for carpet. It loosens the dirt from the carpet first and vacuums it afterwards. The result: a cleaner floor with a fresh look.
  • Remove stains and freshly spilled liquids as fast as possible. The sooner you do this, the smaller the chance it will find its way inside the floor and the easier it is to remove.
  • With carpet make sure to have hard gliders and with PVC/vinyl soft gliders and wheels.
  • Inform yourself about the enclosed maintenance advice from the manufacturer/supplier. LEOXX standardly provides a maintenance advice with all its floors. This advice can also be found on and downloaded from our website on the product page.
  • Have a maintenance check done at least once per year by a specialised cleaning company. With LEOXX XXtra Care we provide the periodical maintenance for you and make a tailor-made maintenance advise for each floor.

DONT’S

  • Don't use aggressive cleaning supplies or solvents. Consult the manufacturer or supplier first when you are not sure and don't just use the first cleaning supplies you have available.
  • Don't clean the floor with soap, but use water with a neutral cleaner. Soap contains fat and attracts dirt. On PVC and vinyl floors this creates an oily haze being harder and harder to clean.
  • With stains or spilled liquids on carpet don't rub but dab! By rubbing you 'push' the stain deeper into the carpet and you damage the fibre.
