Ntgrate woven vinyl: silence inheard of

Published on 24 February 2023

Long term exposure to loud and disturbing noises don’t only cause irritation, but after a while also cause serious health issues. Headaches, tiredness, and tension are often heard of complaints. That’s why the acoustic comfort of a room is of essential importance. With their exceptional acoustic performances, the woven vinyl flooring of ntgrate contributes to the creation of a pleasant environment where well-being and the health of its users are top priorities.

BETTER PERFORMANCES DUE TO GOOD ACOUSTICS

Increased productivity on the work floor, better learning performances in education, fostering recovery in healthcare and an improved customer experience in the hospitality and leisure industry. Plenty of studies show the importance of good acoustics. For example, the average employee loses about 10-15 minutes of focus with each auditive interruption. And patients experience more stress with resonance and noise and a reduced quality of sleep in buildings with poor spatial acoustics. It’s for good reason that acoustics is one of the focal points in the design of spaces where wellbeing and the health of its users are central factors.

INTERPLAY OF FACTORS

Good acoustics are not achieved by a sole solution. Acoustics is always an interplay of different factors. Not just the flooring, but also for example walls, ceilings, furniture, lamps, and interior fabrics contribute to it. By taking all aspects of acoustics into account, problems in a later stage can be prevented. If we look at the flooring part, acoustics is mainly determined by a combination of the acoustic absorption, impact sound insulation and walking sound.

ACOUSTIC ABSORPTION

Acoustic absorption plays a part in the control of resonance and speech intelligibility in a space. Resonance is a result of too little acoustic absorption. A long reverberation time has a negative effect on speech intelligibility. Due to its unique textile structure, woven vinyl flooring of ntgrate has an acoustic absorption value of 0.15 (15%). That’s 300% more than with conventional flat vinyl flooring. In comparison to soft flooring, this is the same value as with a standard loop pile or flat woven carpet.

IMPACT SOUND REDUCTION

Impact sound is sound noise permeating to spaces below, above, or adjacent by direct contact with the walls, floors, and ceilings. An important aspect to go with for buildings with multiple floors and a concatenation of spaces like offices, schools, hotels, healthcare institutions and apartment blocks. With the default Greenfelt backing, ntgrate makes you achieve an impact sound reduction of 19 dB. With the optional acoustic Greenfelt backing that’s even 22 dB. Compared to a conventional flat vinyl floor that’s on average 7 times higher. And compared to conventional flat vinyl flooring combined with a standard subfloor it’s still twice as much. If you compare the value of 22dB with carpet, it’s comparable to the value of a flat loop pile or flat woven carpet.

WALKING SOUND

Walking sound is the noise to be heard in the room itself. Each reduction of 3 dB implies a halving of the noise perceived, and therefore twice as much comfort. The ntgrate 22 dB Greenfelt backing has a value of 67 dB on walking sound. With conventional flat vinyl flooring this is substantially higher, being 80 dB. This means that on the woven vinyl flooring of ntgrate with the 22 dB Greenfelt backing, 20 people produce the same amount of sound as 1 person does on a conventional flat vinyl floor. With the default 19 dB Greenfelt backing of ntgrate this is 10 people. In other words: with the ntgrate 22dB (and 19 dB) backing you perceive the same amount of walking noise with many more people than you would with a plain flat vinyl floor with just one person.
