BACK TO THE OVERVIEW

Gouden Handen

In the small city of 's-Heerenberg, located in the province Gelderland, we find the former St. Bonifacius monastery. After the building lost its function as a monastery, it became well known for becoming the biggest amateur creativity centre in the world up to 1999 under its new name 'Gouden Handen'. For over a century this former monastery has served its purpose and breathes its salutary and authentic atmosphere with some classical elements like the stained-glass windows, original natural stone floors in the hallways, old wooden support beams, original doors and elegant banisters. Elements bringing you back to earlier times.

After the building had been abandoned for a little while in 1999 'Woonzorg Nederland' decided to give the monastery a new purpose. Several governmental and well-being organisations moved into the former monastery after which Concept & Images was assigned the task to turn it into a living complex.

With a special printed carpet, they wanted to demonstrate the authentic atmosphere in a modern way. This is shown in a print of the pattern and the colours being used in the original tile floor of the premise.

Carpet was also used in a different way. On the walls and ceilings of the conversation units carpet has been applied in bright colours to enhance the aesthetics and acoustics.
