Ouwehands Zoo

the perfect floor to carry the Jungle restaurant

With up to 15.000 visitors per day at the zoo Ouwehands Dierenpark in Rhenen, many feet will walk on the floor of the Jungle restaurant. It's not surprising that a casted floor from the Rough series was chosen for the 950 m2 of the restaurant. Elephant-proof and a perfect match for the jungle theme.

Seamlessly casting two colours

For the jungle vibe, they were looking for a rough floor with an earthly look. The choice fell on the robust Rough 648 combined with a special produced, somewhat darker, brown variety. The designers did not want to apply strips in between the floors. That's why the floors have been casted wet into wet against each other. The organic division between the two colours amplifies the jungle idea perfectly.

The restaurant is in a big space but can be divided into three smaller unites to host for example a wedding or conference meeting. The existing subfloor wasn't of high quality and has therefor been blasted heavily and levelled. The advantage of the Rough series is that you can correct for small level differences by casting a slightly higher layer.  Due to the seamless floor a unity is created in spite of the use of two colours.

Stilettos in the jungle

The tough Rough has no problem carrying the occassionally hosted big dancing parties, where there is no short of people carrying stiletto heels. Also, the daily cleaning with a scrubber drier, a logical choice with such intensive use, is not an issue for the Rough series. The designer and restaurant owner are very charmed by the Rough casted floor, both in performance and looks.
