Groningen Seaports

Groningen Seaports is the commercial operator and manager of the port of Delfzijl and Eemshaven and the adjacent industrial estates. Located on the Wadden Sea World Heritage Site, it takes its social responsibility seriously. From its unique and sustainably designed building, Groningen Seaports works daily to achieve a healthy balance between economy and nature.

SYMBOLIC OFFICE BUILDING

The Seaports Groningen office is located on the Delfzijl port site, right where land and sea meet. It marks the entrance to the commercial quay and serves as a beacon from the sea. Its position and materialization symbolize the connection between the city (stone side) and the sea (transparent glass side). From the building, you can look out over the bustling port and industry of Delfzijl on one side, while on the other side you can experience the tranquility of the Wadden Sea with Germany on the other side and Eemshaven to the northwest.

MARITIME AND SUSTAINABLE INTERIOR

Not only the exterior, but also the interior, which has been designed with sustainability in mind, appeals to the imagination. Carefully chosen colors and materials reinforce the connection with the surroundings. A maritime, homely feel served as the guiding principle for the redesign of the reception area and the ‘Kombuis’ (the canteen). In the reception area, the existing counter has been wrapped in white and fitted with new, dark wood-colored tops. Next to the counter, a rug in sea blue tones has been chosen to match the maritime theme. The rug is from LEOXX's REused collection, a series of recycled carpets made from remnants of various rugs. On top of the rug is a table that can be decorated with greenery. In the alcoves, images tell the story of the seven spearheads of Groningen Seaports: energy, data, offshore wind, chemistry, circularity, innovation, and business parks.
